Beyond the ordinary ...
Alexandra Taylor's work centres on the physical creation of storytelling. Through her autobiographical practice and large-scale sculptural installations she navigates themes of trauma and deeper emotional states, giving physical form to the invisible.
By reclaiming and transforming specific objects, Taylor uses materiality as a vehicle to articulate visual metaphors. She emphasises weight, texture and size as necessary components to produce a raw narrative of survival.
Her use of scale functions as a catalyst for confrontation, creating a site of tension where the viewer's physical presence meets the psychological reality of the past. These immersive environments bridge the gap between private trauma and collective healing.
In her latest work, "Behind Closed Doors" Taylor confronts traumatic experiences and exposes deep cracks within domestic lives. Each room represents real-life events, often hidden.
"Healing is not a clean, straight line; it is messy, raw, and fragile. But in the act of sculpting, we realize we are not the shattered fragments or the formless dust; we are the hands that shape the art and gently rebuilding ourselves from the inside out."
